Your privacy is very important to us at Northcube and we appreciate that you are trusting us with your personal information. Here are a few of our fundamental privacy principles:
- We aggregate and de-identify certain information about our users to use for business purposes.
- We offer several ways to control the privacy of your personal information and we continuously work on enhancing the options available to you.
Our privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains the information we collect, how we use and share it, how to control your data, and your rights in connection to when you use our applications, software, websites, APIs and services (collectively, “Sleep Cycle”).
Unless indicated otherwise, this Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party products or services or the practices of companies that we do not own or control, including other companies you might interact within or through Sleep Cycle.
This Privacy Policy constitutes a legal agreement between you, as the user of Sleep Cycle, Throughout this Privacy Policy we will refer to you as “you”, and we will refer to Northcube as “we”, “us” or “Northcube”.

Processing of Your Information
Northcube collects, uses, shares and otherwise processes information we have about you for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including:
- Where you have agreed to the processing, which you can revoke at any time. For example, you may have entered your email upon registering to our online backup service.
- To fulfill the contract of service between Northcube and you as a user of that service.
- Where necessary to comply with legal obligation, a court order, or to exercise and defend legal claims.
- Where you have made the information public.
We do this mainly in order to provide and improve the Sleep Cycle services, but also to develop tailored offerings to you as a user on a sustained basis, as well as to keep Sleep Cycle safe and secure by protecting against fraud, spam, and abuse etc.
Information We Collect
Northcube collects information about you, including information that directly or indirectly identifies you, if you choose to share it with Sleep Cycle. We receive information in multiple ways about when and how you are using Sleep Cycle. There are also several opportunities for you to share information about yourself and your activities with Sleep Cycle.
Account information
We collect information such as email address to help us secure access to Sleep Cycle if you do create an account. Sleep Cycle may also use location at a certain time in order to accurately inform you about the local weather and to provide you with statistics in relation to where you sleep.
Use information
We collect information when you choose to use Sleep Cycle with our online backup service (such as date, time, sleep quality information and other statistical data).
The content you share in Sleep Cycle
The Services may enable you to post content to social networking sites (“SNSs”, e.g., Facebook). If you choose to do this, we will provide information to such SNSs in accordance with your elections. You acknowledge and agree that you are solely responsible for your use of those websites and that it is your responsibility to review the terms of use and privacy policy of the third party provider of such SNSs. We will not be responsible or liable for: (i) the availability or accuracy of such SNSs; (ii) the content, products or services on or availability of such SNSs; or (iii) your use of any such SNSs.
Third-Party Accounts
If you choose to sign up and log in to Sleep Cycle using accounts you created with third-party services such as Facebook or Google (collectively, “Third-Party Accounts”) we will collect information that you agreed to make available such as name, email address and profile information. This information is collected by the Third-Party Account provider and is provided to Northcube under their privacy policies. You can generally control what information they share with us by using their privacy settings.
Contact information
If you chose to provide us with your contact information, for example by emailing us, we will use this to respond to support requests and comments.
Use across our services
We may combine information we collect from you with information obtained from other users, third parties and information derived from any other subscription, product or service we provide.
Technical information
We collect technical information from the devices you use to access Sleep Cycle. This information is used to analyze trends and protect and secure Sleep Cycle. The information collected includes network information; including IP addresses, timestamps, log files, and operating system.
Analytics information
We work with partners who provide us with analytics and advertising services. This includes helping us understand how users interact with the Sleep Cycle services, the stability and performance of the Sleep Cycle services, serving advertisements on our behalf across the internet, and measuring the performance of those advertisements. These companies may use device-specific advertiser identifiers, cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your interactions with the Services and other websites and applications.
You can turn off the advertisement serving technologies in the settings of the device that you are using. If you turn the advertisement technologies off it will not limit the function of the Services and affect your user experience.
How We Use Information
Northcube uses the information we collect to operate and improve Sleep Cycle as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy. For example, we may use your sleep information to provide you with “big data” statistics and key data points such as average sleep time in certain countries. At this point, the data will be aggregated and de-identified from any personal data.
We also use your information to analyze and improve Sleep Cycle. To accomplish this Northcube may use third party providers to analyze and gain insight into how Sleep Cycle is used and to help us improve.
We may use your email address to send you service and marketing related notices if you have agreed to receive such messages. Those emails can be unsubscribed from with clear and simple instructions in the email. We may also use your email address to notify you of updates to our Privacy Policy or Terms of Use.
How Information Is Shared
We may share anonymous, aggregated statistics with outside parties, such as how many people do a go to sleep before 10 pm, how early do they wake up in Japan etc.
To analyze, gain insight and improve Sleep Cycle we use third-party services that might receive and process de-identified information on our behalf. These third parties will only receive the information needed to perform these specific actions, and Northcube will never share more information than necessary.
Service Providers
Northcube may share your personally identifiable information with third parties (like hosting and market analytics) for the purpose of providing services to you. If we do this, such third parties’ use of your information will be bound by restrictions consistent with this Privacy Policy. We may store personal information in locations outside the direct control of Northcube (for instance, on servers or databases co-located with hosting providers).
Publicly Available Information
When and if you choose to share to social media, your information and content may be publicly accessible.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal requirements; to exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims; to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud or abuse, violations of our policies; or to protect our rights and property.
If we sell all or part of our business, make a sale or transfer of assets, are otherwise involved in a merger or business transfer, or in the event of bankruptcy, we may disclose and transfer your personally identifying information to one or more third parties as part of that transaction.
How We Protect Information
Pursuant to applicable Data Privacy laws and regulation, Northcube maintains a reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information against accidental or unlawful destructions, or loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure or access.
We continuously work to keep your data safe in Sleep Cycle from the collection, transmission, and storage of the data we collect. We use a combination of technical controls to maintain the security of your data. This includes using industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt many of our services and ensure that information is transmitted and stored securely in our services.
Your Rights
You can at any time contact our support at [email protected] to get your personal data deleted. You may also export your personal data to a CSV file either from inside the app or through our web service. If you are not a subscriber to our online backup services you can simply just uninstall the app in order to remove any stored data. Notifications and Email Preferences
It is our policy to provide notifications, whether such notifications are required by law or are for marketing or other business related purposes, to you via an email notice. If you inform us that you wish to cancel email newsletters or promotional materials by selecting unsubscribe at the bottom of such communication or by emailing us at [email protected], we will remove you from our mailing list. If you no longer wish to receive push notifications, you may turn them off at the device level. Administrative or service-related emails (to confirm a purchase, updates to Privacy Policy, etc.) generally do not offer an option to unsubscribe as they are necessary to provide the services you requested.
You can stop receiving certain notifications by disabling notifications for Sleep Cycle on a device level. You may also unsubscribe by following the clear instructions contained at the bottom of each email. Administrative or service-related emails (to confirm a purchase, updates to Privacy Policy, etc.) generally do not offer an option to unsubscribe as they are necessary to provide the services you requested.
Access Your Data
If you do not have an account then no personal information will be stored outside the device being used. By creating and/or logging in to your account, you can then access your information across devices.
Editing and Deleting Your data
You can delete specific recorded activities, for example, sleep sessions or comments posted by yourself.

Objecting to Data Use
If you have a Sleep Cycle account, you can still prohibit Sleep Cycle from uploading your data to our servers by disabling the Online Backup feature in Sleep Cycle.
If you have participated in the anonymous global Sleep Survey you may, at any time, stop participating by disabling the “Participate in survey” option under the Settings -> Advanced -> Profile menu in Sleep Cycle.
If you have previously granted access to Apple Health or Google Fit, you can revoke this access through the devices health settings, which prevents Sleep Cycle from accessing information from either of these services.
Data Retention
We keep information as long as it is necessary to operate Sleep Cycle. We keep all of your information until you either delete your account or if your account has been inactive for a certain amount of time, whichever happens first. Following the deletion of your account, it may take up to 30 days to fully delete your personal information from our systems.
Additionally, we may retain information from deleted accounts to comply with the law, prevent fraud, collect fees, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, assist with investigations, enforce the Terms of Use or take other actions permitted by law. The information we retain will be handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Information about you that is no longer necessary and relevant to provide our services may be de-identified and aggregated with other non-personal data to provide insights which are commercially valuable to Northcube, such as statistics of the use of Sleep Cycle.
Children
If you are under the age 16 you are not allowed to create an account or submit any personal data through Sleep Cycle. We encourage parents and legal guardians to monitor their children’s Internet use and to help us enforce our Privacy Policy by instructing their children to never provide any personal data through Sleep Cycle.

If we learn that we have accessed and stored personal information about a child under the minimum required age, we will take steps to delete the information as soon as possible.
Changes to This Policy
Northcube have the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time, so please review it occasionally. We will notify you before we make any substantial changes to this Privacy Policy and give you an opportunity to review the revised policy.
Any and all material changes shall come into effect between you and Northcube upon your acceptance of such changes (e.g. by using Sleep Cycle after such notification has been made to you or renewing your subscription).
If you object to any change in the Privacy Policy you should immediately ask us for an account deletion and stop using Sleep Cycle.
